If you read no other testimonials please read, and understand these.

Electric dog collars are a very controversial topic. The Welsh government, in their supposed wisdom, have banned them. I am led to believe that the Scottish Parliament has the banning of these collars on their agenda as well.

Unfortunately too many "do gooders" are doing dogs no good at all. In the correct hands these collars can save lives. The following testimonial is from a very fit, retired couple who are the owners of a Labradoodle called Holly. Holly had been chasing a deer down the hill to the main Edinburgh city By-pass. Fortunately the deer veered away from the road and therefore the dog followed.

Could you imagine the carnage when a deer and a dog run over on to a dual carriageway? One dead deer, one dead dog, and how many human casualties caused by the pile up? Do you think a wee bit "treat" is going to bring that dog back from chasing a deer, when it has a leg of venison in its sights? Absolutely not!

I do NOT apologise to anyone who is about to be offended. I have absolutely no problem using an ecollar in this situation when other training methods are unproductive. The collar is NOT wired to a pylon!! The unit gives a small shock, which can be regulated, from a battery similar to those found in a mobile phone. It is the same as the static shock we used to encounter from the older type of motor vehicles when getting out the car. Invariably the dog needs no more than three shock "nicks" as there is a warning bleeper that activates before the shock is given. The dog realises that if it conforms on the beep the shock doesnt follow therefore the separate switch for beeper can be used for the training alone.

Would the "do gooder" prefer the animal is either shot by a farmer for chasing his sheep, killed going over a road or put to an animal welfare centre to await it fate (possible destroyed) or perhaps put through the proper training with this excellent aid and the owners educated in its PROPER use? I think a few wee nicks is a far better solution. As you will read the dog now comes back to the whistle which was used aspart of the training.

Thanks for sending me this Jo.

 "Hi Mick

Walks with Holly have been transformed thanks to you. We still put the
electric collar on her a lot of the time but very rarely need to use it, and
when we do the bleeps alone are sufficient to bring her back to us. I have
stopped her chasing a deer and foxes just by blowing the whistle and we can
walk her past sheep off the lead by keeping her close to us.  Once when Bob
was out with Holly, he was amazed to observe her standing still watching 2
deer cross a field in front of her. We are recently back from a week in the
Highlands (Holly bagged her first 3 Munros!) and she was off the lead all
the time out on walks and we never activated the collar once.

All in all, it is a joy now to take Holly on walks - even if we feel we need
to be out a little longer as she is no longer using up energy chasing deer!
I would say that she also appears more biddable in every way, treats are a
thing of the past (except when we need to hose her down after a muddy walk,
she is not too keen on that).

So, many thanks for your help. If people weren't so anti electric collars
(and check chains) there would be a lot more well behaved dogs around and
happier owners.

Sorry it has taken me so long to report back to you on our progress.  We are
two contented owners with a contented dog!

Wishing you all the best.

Jo and Bob Todd"

AN UPDATE ON THE ORIGINAL Email

"One other thing I didn't mention in my original email is that Holly actually
comes towards us wagging her tail when we prime the collar (i.e. when she
hears the 5 bleeps) because she knows it means we are about to take her on a
walk!  It doesn't bother her in any way.  As Bob says, the collar sets
boundaries but Holly has complete freedom within those boundaries. It is the
same with children, they are actually happier when they know what the
boundaries are. In Holly's case the benefit to her is that we can now take
her virtually anywhere and let her explore off the lead. She is, as ever, a
very happy dog.

We are delighted if our testimonial can be a help in anyway. I noted that
other testimonials make no mention of the collar and for this reason I
thought you would not want to put ours up on the website!

Again, many thanks for your invaluable help and all the best.

Jo "
